Retirement Consultations.

These consultations are appropriate for FDNY/NYPD members that are approaching retirement or already retired.

Our in-person retirement consultations are presented by Peter Thomann EA, CFP® and take place at 48 Wall St Suite 1100, NY, NY. These consultations are appropriate for FDNY/NYPD retirees and active members nearing retirement. The session will last about 1 1/2 hours. The fee is $400 per session payable by credit card or check and can be booked online using the Appointment Scheduler button below.

  • Explanation of pension options

  • Pension tax issues

  • VSF DROP

  • Pension divorce issues

  • Final withdrawal advantages and disadvantages

  • Rollover rules and available retirement plan choices

  • Tax saving strategies

  • NYC Deferred Compensation Plans; 457(b), 401(k), 401(a), Roth 457(b), etc.

  • Union Annuity plans


The following documents are needed for the session:

1. Pension Estimate Report

A. FDNY
Example FDNY pension estimate needed for the session. The Service pension estimate report is generated by the “pension portal” on a job computer.
Note: if you are retiring from FDNY with a 3/4 pension you will need the pension estimate report for 3/4s. The pension estimate for 3/4s is only generated by NYC Fire Pension Fund personnel. Retiring 3/4s members do not have the ability to generate a 3/4 pension estimate report on their own.
B. NYPD
The pension estimate report from webCOPS is needed for the session.

2. NYC Deferred Compensation Plan statement

3. Union Annuity Fund statement (known as an Accrual Fund for UFA members)

4. For divorced pre-retirees a copy of the QDRO in reference to the pension, if applicable
